Beschreibung

This hardcover book, whose contents are in Czech, examines the global history of Eurasia from the middle of the first millennium CE to the beginning of the twenty-first century in its broader historical, political, cultural and economic contexts. From the dawn of the Middle Ages to the end of the early modern period, extensive regions stretching from China through Central Asia to India and the Mediterranean were integrated through an Oriental globalization that concentrated the world’s greatest economic and intellectual potential. European societies remained on the periphery of this vast zone, which consisted of numerous commercial and political links. Atlantic globalization, born in the eighteenth century in the area between northwestern Europe and North America, was enabled by the emergence of a strong mercantilist state, a scientific worldview and the ideology of liberalism. At the turn of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, Atlantic globalization definitively overshadowed Oriental globalization and led to Western hegemony and modern global civilization. The current stagnation of the West and the renewed rise of Asian powers are connected with a crisis of Euro-American rationalism, scientism and liberalism, which may be overcome by reassessing the legacy of liberalism and creating an ideology of post-liberalism.
