Beschreibung
As you drive through Zambia, at the entrance to every city or town, there is a large metal sign that reads: 'Have you eaten today? Thank the farmers.' How simple, yet telling. Peter has been practicing veterinary medicine in Africa for over 10 years. In a country of vast expanse, poor roads where cattle and wild animals roam at night, and cars mostly drive unlit and on the left, in a country where everything is reversed, including the night sky. In a land of dangerous diseases and poor access to medicine, where time flows differently and the night is alive with a concert of sounds you won't hear anywhere else. On his very first visit, he fell ill with the 'African disease,' and that heart bond could never be broken. Peter shares stories about the background of both known and unknown diseases, historical facts, natural laws and curiosities, African specifics, and the mentality of the local people. Why are insects and wires the biggest enemies of veterinarians in Africa? What is it like to suddenly realize that you are staring into the eyes of death? And where have all the brave bearers of the title European gone? Africa, as you will never see it.
