The first, from a Moravian village, was on the French front in 1940 and subsequently spent many years in a prisoner of war camp; the second, from Subcarpathian Rus, went through forced service in the Hungarian army and crossed the front as a member of the 1st Czechoslovak Army Corps in the USSR.
