The book describes a pivotal period in the life of young Conan, as the hero leaves the civilized world and returns to the beloved yet harsh Cimmeria, where he was born and raised. At first, the straightforward dangers lurking in the snowy mountain passes seem like a welcome change compared to the treacherous intrigues and betrayals he encountered in the cities of the East, but he soon discovers that even here he will face many valuable lessons in the treachery of others. And at the moment when Caolan, the first woman Conan ever loved, threatens the fragile truce that exists between Conan's tribe and the Aesir, the hero finds himself at the very heart of a conflict that will test not only his physical strength and quick mind – but above all, his passionate heart. This time, screenwriter Tim Truman, artist Tomás Giorelli, and colorist José Villarrubia are joined by the legendary (now deceased) illustrator Richard Corben, who provided the artwork for the nostalgic tales of Conan's grandfather.
