Beschreibung
The poetry collection by Alexandra Brocková, Waiting for Moss, is a confident debut. This thoughtfully composed book subtly reintroduces a high poetic style into contemporary Czech poetry. Brocková enjoys alternating vibrant formal registers: from lofty pathos to a 'millennial' sly remark. She is unafraid to blend the high with the low, a certain 'learnedness' with playfulness, observing imperceptible events and beings, plants, birds, and elements with precise poetic form. Brocková speaks for things and living beings, never condescending, always present. She perceives humanity as one of many creatures inhabiting the Earth and comments on its absurd hustle with delicate irony. It is as if, in her view, contemporary civilization is a parade of slowly crumbling monuments-ruins, which the author reports on as an amazed traveler. In the poetry of Alexandra Brocková, one can experience what Petr Král called 'the breath of perception' – the ability to evoke an intensified sensation or state that literally unfolds before the eyes during reading. This book is published with the kind support of the Ministry of Culture.
