Kocovina is the third part of the novel trilogy Žižkaperk Blues. The story of the novel begins in 1989 during Palach's week, in the "year of miracles" when surrounding communist regimes are falling, and the Velvet Revolution is finally beginning. The main character lives in Prague's Žižkov and comes from a family severely affected by communist repression. He actively participates in historical events and hopes for changes related to the impending fall of the communist regime. The free nineties arrive, and it soon becomes clear that truth and love do not always prevail... ***************** On Monday morning, I woke up with a headache. It felt like a mild concussion. After careful consideration, I decided to go to work anyway. I didn't want to go on sick leave, and I certainly didn't want to explain to the doctor and possibly even the police how I got my minor injury. Blaming something like a police syringe would not be the most appropriate or sensible thing to do. I also didn't want to rot at home, especially at a time that finally promised to break the ice and perhaps even mark the beginning of the end for the rotten and hated Bolshevik regime.
