Beschreibung
Sandrine, who recently moved to Normandy, receives a summons from a notary to pick up her personal belongings from her deceased grandmother's house – a quirky woman who lived alone on a tiny island off the coast and refused to socialize with her daughter or granddaughter. Sandrine steps off the boat onto the gray, cold island and meets a handful of residents, elderly people living in almost complete isolation from civilization. They all describe her grandmother as a kind and gentle woman, a portrayal far removed from what Sandrine's mother told her. A strange atmosphere prevails on the island. It takes just a few hours for Sandrine to realize that the locals are hiding some secret. Something they fear. So why does no one leave? What happened to the children from the summer camp that was hastily closed in 1949? Instead of answers, the young woman is found days later wandering the beach on the mainland with clothes soaked in blood that isn't hers... The novel won the award for the best French novel of 2019, presented at the annual detective literature festival in Cognac.
