Noah Rothauser, the new chief resident at Boston Memorial Hospital, has his hands full in his new role – from preparing surgical programs to dealing with the aftermath of patient deaths. The teaching hospital has transformed several rooms into hybrid operating rooms of the future, which seems like a significant medical advancement until a healthy man dies during a routine operation. Noah suspects that the error and subsequent manipulation of the patient's medical records were committed by the top, albeit egocentric, surgeon William Mason, who, however, blames anesthesiologist Ava London. But as more anesthesia-related deaths begin to occur, Noah must reconsider the capabilities of all medical staff – including Ava. Thus, not only Noah's credibility and job are at stake, but also the reputation of the entire hospital...
