Systematic acquisition of basic reading skills. The workbook Jsem čtenář 1 follows the typology of exercises from a comprehensive set of teaching materials for reading and writing instruction in the 1st grade, titled Čteme a píšeme s Agátou. However, knowledge of this set is not a prerequisite for mastering the publication Jsem čtenář, which is primarily intended for 2nd-grade students, although parts of it can also be used by 1st-grade students at the end of the school year instead of the 3rd part of the reading primer. The teaching material Jsem čtenář has two main objectives: • to master basic reading skills, • to provide the student with descriptive feedback that supports the reading process. The textbook focuses primarily on improving reading technique, which subsequently leads to better text comprehension. Students learn to read aloud, whisper, with emphasis on the first syllable of a word, learn to read direct speech, commas, and conjunctions in sentences, etc., and learn to distinguish between what it means to read fluently, correctly, with understanding, and attentively. In 16 chapters, including four review chapters, mind maps, question and answer work, searching and marking information in the text, finding words that do not belong in the text, practicing left-right orientation in text and space, etc. are widely used.
