The textbook is part of the series Understanding in Context. The textbook, in accordance with the existing Framework Educational Program, includes basic geographical, political, economic, and cultural data about the Czech Republic and Europe. At the same time, it already takes into account the Main Directions of Educational Policy of the Czech Republic until 2030+, which aim to focus education on acquiring competencies necessary for active civic, professional, and personal life. Therefore, new topics are also included that support self-awareness and self-assessment among students, encourage critical thinking, and promote prosocial behavior and interest in societal events. The textbook recommended for the 4th grade is divided into four basic sections. In the section Living Among People, students will reflect on what qualities we have, how we can plan task fulfillment, and how we should behave towards each other. In the section Living on Earth, students will expand their existing knowledge about the Earth, climate and weather, types of landscapes, orientation in the landscape and on maps, and will get acquainted with basic geographical data about Europe.
