Systematic acquisition of basic reading skills. The workbook I Am a Reader 1 follows, in terms of exercise typology, a comprehensive set of teaching materials for reading and writing instruction in the 1st grade titled We Read and Write with Agáta. However, knowledge of this set is not a prerequisite for mastering the publication I Am a Reader, which is primarily intended for 2nd-grade students, although its parts can also be used by 1st-grade students at the end of the school year instead of the 3rd part of the primer. The teaching material I Am a Reader has two main goals: • to master basic reading skills, • to provide the student with descriptive feedback that supports the reading process. The textbook focuses primarily on improving reading technique, which subsequently leads to better text comprehension. Students learn to read aloud, in whispers, with emphasis on the first syllables of words, learn to read direct speech, commas, and conjunctions in sentences, etc., and learn to distinguish between what it means to read fluently, correctly, with understanding, and attentively.
