One of the most acclaimed and successful graphic novels of recent times, which was also adapted into an animated film. The author, who was born in Iran but lives in France, first takes us through her childhood spent in Tehran during the Islamic Revolution and the war with Iraq, and further recounts her time at a French high school in Vienna, her subsequent return to her homeland, her last attempt to coexist with a regime that cannot have any understanding for independent personalities of her kind, especially female, and her final departure to France. While the main theme of the first part was life under a totalitarian regime, the second part focuses on how a person raised in such a regime copes with suddenly acquired freedom: another theme that many Czechs are intimately familiar with.
