The year is 56 AD. General Corbulo has gathered an army of twenty thousand men for the war against Parthia. The Second Praetorian Cohort, commanded by veteran tribune Cato and centurion Macro, is ready for battle. The general decides on a ruse. He sends a delegation to the Parthian king led by Cato, who is to negotiate a peace treaty. However, the terms proposed by the Roman side are unacceptable to the Parthians, and the true purpose of the mission is to prevent the king from attacking the general's troops for a time.
