Candide 3 - Eldorádo – Jerie Karel (2018)

The illusions are gone. War is the daily bread, richly seasoned with the loss of friends, on which Karel Jerie lays his final paintings inspired by Voltaire's novel. Candide and his beloved Kunigunda escape from a Europe torn by revolution. The head of the Ugalská secret police, Zarco, is hot on Candide's heels, so the hero has no choice but to seek refuge in the New World. However, let’s not expect miracles. Candide's path is not strewn with roses, and the New World will only bring him another load of suffering. He will be betrayed by the governor, and Kunigunda will be captured. The salvation of Candide's bare life will literally take him to the depths of the legendary Eldorado. The conflict between the lifestyle of Eldorado and the voice of the heart, which awakens Candide to a new life, is so harrowing that he has no choice but to leave Eldorado behind. With the remnants of his strength, courage, and friends, the hero sets off back to Europe for the imprisoned Kunigunda. The power pressures of European leaders, however, have turned what was once a developed, culture-rich territory into a hell. The diversity of life is replaced by the unity of the battlefield, where Orwellian rules apply: War is peace, freedom is slavery, and ignorance is strength.
