Delila Green swore she would never return to Bright Falls – there was nothing waiting for her there but memories of a lonely childhood. She now lives in New York, her career as a photographer is finally starting to take off, and her bed is never empty. Sure, every night there's a different woman in it, but Delila has no problem with that. When she succumbs to the emotional blackmail of her estranged stepsister, for whom she hasn't cared in years, to photograph her wedding for a tempting sum, Delila finds herself back in Bright Falls. Originally, she just wanted to get it over with and disappear again, but then she meets Claire Sutherland, one of Astrid's best friends, and decides to enjoy her stay after all – while also getting a bit of revenge. Claire, who has mostly raised her daughter alone, struggles with an unreliable ex, her own bookstore, and leads a rather monotonous life. Delila Green enters it as an unwelcome surprise... At least at first. Although they have known each other for years, they don't really know each other at all – and so Claire is unsettled by Delila's knowledge of what works on her. When circumstances bring them together during numerous pre-wedding events, Claire is no longer sure she has the strength to resist Delila's charm. And worse, she begins to think that she doesn't want to resist at all...
