EVERYONE HAS A MOTIVE FOR MURDER. EXCEPT THE MURDERER HIMSELF...
Arrogant judge Sandy Fraser is not particularly popular among the residents of the Yorkshire village of Niddersgill. But is that enough to serve as a motive for murder? The man who shoots Fraser one autumn night outside the Dog & Gun pub has no obvious motive.
Thanks to an eyewitness, it could be an easy case, but Chief Inspector Oldroyd is not so lucky. The shooter manages to escape, and all efforts to track him down come to nothing. Instead, a whole host of disgruntled people who didn't particularly like Fraser gradually emerge during the investigation.
As if that weren't enough, another murder occurs. This time, the victim is Peter Gorton, the owner of the local shop - and once again, this crime seemingly has no cause. Can Oldroyd find a connection between the two murders and catch the perpetrator before someone else dies?
A classic English detective story in the style of modern masters of the genre, such as Ann Granger, Caroline Graham, and Louise Penny.
