Their stories bear no resemblance to one another, yet these women intersect at a certain moment and enter each other's lives without knowing it. Following her experimental debut, Who Will the Foxes Drink, Lidmila Kábrtová presents a collection of loosely connected stories that astonish with their clarity. The lives of the heroines Kábrtová writes about are indeed chaotic, even scattered, just like the lives of most of us, but from a literary perspective, everything is in its place. Similar to the stories of Canadian writer Alice Munro, words here are treated like transparent sheets, so as not to obscure what is essential: the moments when tectonic plates shift somewhere beneath the surface of everyday life and nothing will ever be the same again... — but was it ever really like that?
