Beschreibung
A place you want to read about. Borders plowed between fields and people. A pub, a small shop, pig slaughters. Infidelity and one failed funeral. A grandmother and grandfather fused like two trees. Life tied to the land, animals, and farming. All of this is "The Village," the story of a contemporary village told through the eyes of its inhabitants. Josef struggles in vain to understand why his son Zbyňa refuses to take over the farm when so much needs fixing in the fields destroyed in the cooperative. The locals count where another penny might drop, kind-hearted shopkeeper Maruna tries to get along with everyone, and butcher Láďa is chasing after someone else's skirt. And little Petruna? She can't sit still for a moment. The natural physical closeness of the heroes, their shared work, their desire for a better livelihood, and even their calculating nature are sources of eternal conflicts and entanglements, as well as futile attempts to heal past wounds. A brisk narrative that judges no one and, importantly — does not bore.
