Beschreibung
A few years ago, writer Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie was approached by a childhood friend with a question about how to raise her daughter in the spirit of feminism. Adichie responded with a letter. In the book Dear Ijeawele, which is a revised version of this letter, she presents fifteen recommendations for feminist parenting — warm, perceptive, and humorous. She advises on how to practically apply the approach she outlined in her essay We Should All Be Feminists. Through anecdotal parenting tips, readers and their children learn to recognize the persistent sexism around us — whether it’s about the meaning of fashion and makeup, biological arguments for the division of roles in the household, or seemingly nice men who "allow" women to build their own careers. Feminist parenting is primarily about fostering confidence and openness — not just in daughters.
