On the ground before her lies the charred body of a woman. The day before, a dead nine-year-old boy was found in a garbage container. Murdered. He came from an incomplete family, lived with a lonely alcoholic mother, and often wandered the streets at night. But who could have wanted him dead? Malin suspects that the two murders are connected. Together with her colleagues, they struggle to uncover leads that eventually take them to distant lands, from which contemporary slaves emerge, people without the right to a happy life.
