Beschreibung
Beloved and hated selection of Czech poetry, this year for the ninth time. The selection of the 'best' poems is not meant to suggest an illusion of objectivity, but is the result of a meeting of two editors, two subjective views on the poetry of the given year and on poetry as such. The volume will again present approximately forty poems that were published in the past year as poetic novelties by Czech authors; attention is paid to book publishing, periodicals, and also online. The idea of publishing these selections was introduced in 1988 by American poet and critic David Lehman. Similar yearbooks are now published in several countries around the world. In the Czech context, the editing has involved the most significant figures of Czech poetry, including Karel Šiktanc, Miloslav Topinka, Petr Král, Ivan Wernisch, Petr Hruška, and Vít Slíva. In 2017, the editorial baton will be taken up by Sylva Fischerová (arbitrator of the anthology) and Jan Šulc (editor of the anthology).
