Kasejovice is a small town on the border between southern and western Bohemia whose historic corners conceal many fascinating and forgotten stories. This book examines them chiefly through the eyes of local law-enforcement officers, taking readers among violent offenders, thieves and people living on the margins of society, while also witnessing natural disasters, bizarre conflicts between Catholics and Protestants and political manoeuvring at the local town hall. These events unfold against the backdrop of major historical developments that often affect the Kasejovice region mercilessly. The final section introduces the life stories of individual gendarmes and municipal guards, reflecting the drama of the 20th century. Readers meet resistance fighters from Železný Brod, witness post-war excesses in the Rožmitál region and encounter a State Security operation codenamed “Operation Lichnice”. The book is in Czech.
