Otakar Janůj belonged to the not very numerous group of members of the pre-war police uniformed corps who preferred to leave for the foreign resistance over serving the Protectorate authorities. His service as a telephone operator in the pre-war Czechoslovak army led him to voluntarily join the British Royal Air Force (RAF) in the summer of 1940. His physical stature predisposed him to serve on bomber aircraft. After training as a radio telegraphist-gunner in the summer of 1941, he began operational training with the 311th Czechoslovak Bomber Squadron. One of the training flights just a few days before he was to transition to the operational squadron and participate in raids over enemy territory became fateful for him. The cause of the disappearance of the Wellington T2624 over the Irish Sea remains unknown to this day. The book, in addition to the unique personal diary of Otakar Janůj from 1940-1941, provides new information and a detailed analysis of possible causes of the disappearance. The text is accompanied by about 120 black-and-white photographs, most of which are published for the first time. At the very beginning was the discovery of booklets containing the diary. In one of them, a pass in the name of Otakar Janůj was inserted, but the writer referred to himself in the diary as Ota.
