World Reading for Schoolchildren is a series of richly illustrated, sensitively retold, and abridged works of world literature. William Shakespeare wrote the tragic play Macbeth based on historical events. He used the character of the Scottish King Macbeth, who, however, bears no resemblance to Shakespeare's character in any way. In the drama, Shakespeare speaks of the political ambitions of those who wish to usurp power solely for themselves and at any cost. This tragedy is considered one of the most significant works of the English playwright and poet William Shakespeare. It tells of ambition and the desire for power that lead the formerly loyal nobleman Macbeth to betray his king. Achieving the desired goal does not bring the expected satisfaction; instead, feelings of guilt and threat arise. Every offense, however, must be punished one day.
