Beschreibung
World Reading for Schoolchildren is a series of richly illustrated, sensitively retold, and abridged works of world literature. The novel by the famous English writer Charles Dickens is primarily set in 19th-century London. Many situations and characters are drawn from the author's life. Just like his hero David, he had to work in a factory from the age of eleven because his father ended up in a debtor's prison. Throughout his life, he encounters ruthless and cruel people, such as his stepfather or the director of the orphanage where he is placed after a quarrel with his father. However, he also meets kind-hearted people, and even in the unwelcoming orphanage, he finds friends. After a bleak childhood and a difficult adolescence, David ultimately finds happiness.
