The guide for the Advent and Christmas season contains a brief explanation of biblical texts for the corresponding day and prompts for applying God's word in our lives. The practical impact of meditating on God's word is important – idle fantasizing over the texts of Scripture leads nowhere. Advent has two main themes: Jesus' first coming in the incarnation and his second coming in glory at the end of history. We are accompanied by three figures pointing to the Messiah – the prophet Isaiah, John the Baptist, and Jesus' mother Mary. During the Christmas holidays, we read in the liturgy about the events of Jesus' childhood and the beginning of his public ministry, we absorb the prologue of John's Gospel, and we meditate on the words of the first letter of John. Thus, during both the Advent and Christmas seasons, we can experience a close connection between liturgical celebration, the mystery of Christmas, and our specific situation. This book will contribute to experiencing the end of the old year and the beginning of the new year with deeper joy and new wonder.
