He didn't warm up on any of the journeys, but instead experienced an unimaginably difficult adventure. He managed to capture a large part of it in photographs, which make up a significant and substantial part of the book. Sometimes he silently observed (and photographed) a giant penguin colony, while at other times he had to carefully consider every movement so as not to anger the elephant seals. By the way, the photographs from the first expedition to South Georgia featuring a sleeping Jerome and an elephant seal examining the human intruder with its mouth wide open went viral.
