Among the lesser-known chapters of the Second World War are the military operations in the Arctic, while the operations of the “weather war” remain even more overlooked. Yet without weather reports from the “kitchen of European weather”, modern warfare involving aircraft and naval forces would have been extremely difficult. This book charts the efforts of the British, Americans, Russians, Norwegians and Danes, and their German opponents, to obtain vital information while confronting both the enemy and the harsh Arctic environment. It also includes a small Czech connection to these events and explains how such information supported major wartime operations, including the Allied invasion of Normandy in June 1944 and the German offensive in the Ardennes in December 1944.
