The short story The Man with the Canadian Lawn is among the semi-forgotten literary works of the legendary writer and humorist Miloslav Švandrlík. In 1963, it was published as a "serialized novel" in the pages of the Central Bohemian newspaper Svoboda. Fifty-five installments were accompanied at that time by the same number of Neprakt's drawings. In the 1960s, Švandrlík primarily wrote magazine short stories and only produced three longer works: Bloody Bill and the Viola, The Man with the Canadian Lawn, and The Black Barons.
