She came from a poor background in the Argentine province, excelling only in recitation at school. At the age of fifteen, she left home and headed to the capital, where she started as an actress in minor roles. She became widely known for her performances in radio plays and participated in charity events as a celebrity, where she met one of the representatives of the military regime, Juan Domingo Perón. After two years, she became his wife and accompanied him on his campaign before the presidential elections, culminating in a victorious entry into the presidential palace. She never held any official state position, but she achieved influence like no woman before her in Argentine history. She paved the way into high politics not only for women in Argentina but throughout Latin America, where she became, and remains, a symbol of the left side of the political spectrum.
