Beschreibung
Fritz Haber - the 'father' of modern chemical warfare. For a long time, there have been attempts to use chemical substances for warfare. However, the real chemical war was born during the legendary chlorine attack carried out by the Germans in World War I near the Belgian town of Ypres on April 22, 1915. Since then, the world-renowned German chemist, Nobel Prize laureate Fritz Haber (1868–1934), a university professor of democratic principles, scientist, technician, and manager, has been regarded as the 'father' of modern chemical warfare. At the same time, he was an ambitious patriot, unhesitating to assist his warring homeland with controversial combat means. Haber's similar activities also include his role in ensuring the necessary scale of German explosives production during World War I, partly contributing to the creation of Zyklon B, which gained dark notoriety only after Haber's death in connection with the rise of Nazism.
