Beschreibung
The story of Oskar Schindler is closely linked to Krakow; the future famous director Roman Polański lived in the Podgórze ghetto with his parents, and the later 'Nazi hunter' Simon Wiesenthal passed through the Płaszów camp. We will also meet other characters from Krakow and their fates, such as the Pole Tadeusz Pankiewicz, who managed to run a pharmacy in the ghetto and help the local Jews at the risk of his own life. We will also get to know the camp commander Amon Göth, whom the prisoners called the 'butcher of Płaszów.' On January 20, 1945, the soldiers of the Red Army found mostly just a barren area at the site of the camp. Remnants of the Jewish cemetery and the Pre-Funeral House, the appeal place, the infamously known Gray House, and traces of camp barracks remain in the bushes to this day. A monumental memorial and a simple cross with a crown of thorns commemorate all those who did not survive.
