Beschreibung
The dramatic life story of the first woman in the history of our army to achieve the highest military rank – reserve colonel. She gained wartime experience in 1937-1938 as a member of the Czechoslovak hospital J. A. Komenského during the Spanish Civil War. After the Nazi occupation of the republic, she illegally escaped to Poland and later to the Soviet Union. As one of the first, she enlisted in 1942 in the newly formed Czechoslovak military unit in Buzuluk. She served as a pharmacist in the 1st Czechoslovak Independent Brigade and participated in all battles from Kyiv through Dukla to the liberation of Slovakia. She was also among the first Czechoslovak women to be granted officer rank in 1944. In the 1950s, she was arrested based on fabricated charges and imprisoned for more than two years. However, she did not become bitter, and after her rehabilitation, she became an active member of the Czechoslovak Union of Anti-Fascist Fighters as a significant and respected resistance fighter.
