A significant part of our national identity is traditional folk culture. However, we hardly encounter it today in its authentic form. The modern urban lifestyle has also made its way into the countryside. Folk costumes and customs have been pushed off the village squares and onto stages, and most of the buildings of folk architecture have disappeared.
Open-air museums or museums of folk architecture in nature
Yet, we occasionally feel the desire to return to the world of our ancestors with its simplicity and natural beauty. A place where we can at least momentarily achieve this is the open-air museums, as we call them, or museums of folk architecture in nature. An open-air museum connects the environment of preserved or reconstructed monuments of folk architecture with other evidence of the traditional way of life of our ancestors, agriculture, crafts, and customs, often recently featuring live demonstrations.
