All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others. When the animals of Manor Farm overthrow their irresponsible master and take control of the farm, they believe they are destined for a new and free life. The Animal Farm, as they rename their home, is organized so that all creatures who adhere to the seven commandments are equal. However, as time passes, a new elite forms on the farm, ruled by the pigs Napoleon and Snowball. The other animals soon realize that they are not all as equal as they had imagined, and they come to understand that they are hopelessly trapped in a cycle where one form of tyranny is merely replaced by another. Orwell's brilliant satire is a timeless allegory about the corrupting influence of power and, alongside the novel 1984, is the most famous work of the British writer.
