Every generation overthrows its former masters only to become the servant of new ones. These masters take many forms, speaking as priests, politicians, scientists, parents, intellectuals, teachers, gurus, coaches, or even through our own egos. Our certainties, fears, ambitions, beliefs and values are dictated by them, since they define morality, philosophy, tradition and ideals. Their words create a convincing appearance of reality that we mistake for reality itself, bringing dissatisfaction, suffering, anxiety and unrest when we submit to its futile goals. As a free spirit, however, a Sufi can see this appearance as a veil preventing an encounter with Reality itself, where life can be fully experienced in all its glory. Those who follow the path of Sufism seek to free themselves from every bond, while recognising that any path can become a chain around the neck. Sufism is like a boat used to cross a river: once the opposite bank is reached, the boat must be left behind. The Sufi therefore eventually gives up Sufism itself and remains with being. The Sufi does not seek liberation, because they understand the secret of existence: they are already free. Beyond truth and falsehood, good and evil, belief and unbelief, and every conceivable division, the Sufi reaches the Ground of Being through self-knowledge and finds the answer to the ultimate question: “Who am I?” The contents are in Czech.
