Beschreibung
The book contains a total of thirteen short stories written by Ryūnosuke AKUTAGAWA between 1916 and 1927. Each of them has its own unique charm and presents the reader with timeless dramas of guilt, doubt, betrayal, and greed, infused with gentle irony and melancholic skepticism, stemming from the author's personal experiences and reflections as well as ancient mystical tales transposed into the author's present. Three of the stories are published in Czech translation for the first time, while the others were included in the first edition of this collection in 2005. The manuscript of the last story, or rather poetic notes titled The Life of a Madman, was sent by Akutagawa shortly before his suicide to his friend Masao Kumemura with a request that after his death, he himself decide whether this autobiographical piece of its kind deserves to be published.
