Exactly one year has passed since the murder of Tibor Hakl – one of the key figures in the underworld. In both cases, Krauz's connections with the underworld played an important role. Sometimes even a detective from the homicide department finds useful childhood friends. Fortunately, no one discovered Tibor's corpse, there was no official investigation, and no one searched for connections. Only Burger suspected that his student had grown beyond him – if not professionally, then certainly in risk-taking. But in the mid-nineties, not only the underworld became active; others tried to imitate its methods. In the brutality of the murders, amateurs did not lag behind the underworld at all. In the spring of 1995, the homicide department received a case involving a van driver – a young man who was shot and burned in his car. A horrific death, a dreadful mutilation of the corpse, a serious criminal act. But Krauz and Chosý were troubled not only by the investigation; this time, a problem came hand in hand with an even bigger one...
