Yakari agrees with his mustang Little Lightning that it's a bit too hot for chasing around the prairie, so they decide to go for a swim in the river instead. During this outing, they discover a strange structure built across the riverbed that holds back a significant amount of water. Suddenly, a peculiar furry creature with a flat tail confronts them, scolding them for ruining their work. Thus, Yakari and Little Lightning meet a group of beavers who have recently arrived to build a new home here. Together, the two curious ones will experience many adventures by their side.
