Forty-year-old screenwriter Sebastian wakes up from anesthesia after an accident and discovers that he cannot remember several months of his life. His attending physician, who claims to practice a holistic approach to medicine, offers to help him regain his memories, while a young social worker named Zoe facilitates his contact with the outside world. However, Sebastian's situation seems cursed: he struggles to connect with his family, has debts at the bank, his mobile phone is irreparably damaged, and his email inbox is inaccessible. The book is partly a detective story, as it seeks the culprit behind Sebastian's misfortune; partly it is a spiritual fiction, as the hero falls into a coma and his soul finds itself in a world 'on the other side'; and finally, it is also a psychological tale, as it brilliantly describes the anatomy of a mental collapse.
