Beschreibung
Annotation The memoir book Taliáni (published in 1978) is a heart-wrenching depiction of Cavanna's childhood before World War II in Nogent-sur-Marne near Paris. Rather than about Italian immigrants in France working as masons, it is a book dedicated directly to the author's father, an illiterate mason with a big heart and folk wisdom. With an inimitable style, he writes openly about his family, the Nogent primary school, friends, the games of Nogent children, and the social and political conditions in pre-war France. Through the eyes of a child, he depicts the coming of age of a boy from a poor family on the outskirts of Paris, in a group of children playing in the gutters by the sidewalk, his first reading and erotic experiences, and the discovery of the adult world. Cavanna's perspective is penetrating and profound. The idea arises that Cavanna's recollections are genre-related to Federico Fellini's epic film Amarcord. His motto is: know yourself, and yet do not stop loving yourself.
