Rather than a classic autobiography, it is a collection of anecdotes, 'slanders,' and reflections on life that Twain worked on for several years. His painfully honest reflection on his own life and the world is essential for understanding this complex figure of world literature and his work. Twain himself writes: 'We are what we remember. Without memory, we disappear, we cease to exist, our past is erased, and yet we pay little attention to memory...' The Czech translation offers the broadest audience a chance to glimpse into Twain's memory, heart, and soul.
