This textbook volume presents an explanation of the general part of substantive civil law, the foundations of civil-law protection of personality, and family law. Its theoretically focused treatment also addresses practical questions and reflects the latest developments in legal scholarship and case law, as well as recent changes in legislation. The first part introduces private law and substantive civil law as its fundamental branch. The second and central part provides a solid foundation in the general principles of substantive civil law, covering private-law dealings, relationships and legal situations; natural and legal persons, including associations, foundations and other legal forms regulated by the Civil Code; objects in the legal sense, including things and other objects; subjective rights and duties, including the foundations of private-law liability; and legal facts, including limitation, forfeiture and other institutions connected with the passage of time. The third part offers an overview of civil-law protection of an individual’s personality and similar protection for legal persons. The fourth part outlines the basic institutions of family law, including marriage and matrimonial property law, partnerships, the private-law consequences of cohabitation, the legal status of children, the foundations of adoption and substitute care, and broader family-law institutions. This section already incorporates Amendment No. 268/2025, sometimes called the divorce amendment, but does not assess it, as such an evaluation requires more time. The textbook presents the material clearly and accessibly, helping students gain a firm grasp of civil law and understand how law works in general. It can also benefit practising lawyers, economists, entrepreneurs, public-sector employees and anyone wishing to acquire, refresh or consolidate knowledge in these areas. The contents are in Czech.
