Beschreibung
The collection includes essays that were published in the supplements of the Saturday Lidové noviny, Česká pozice, and Orientace between 2017 and 2024, or in online form, often newly revised. Some of the essays included here are published for the very first time.
Thematically, the author addresses a wide range of contemporary issues, but also reflects on specific historical events (e.g., the rise of Italian fascism) and certain social phenomena (outsider status or the application of the Stoic lifestyle to today's world). A special place in the book is occupied by the issue of the decline of reading literacy and awareness of the heritage of the whole of European culture, which he tries to counter by pointing out the timeless dimension of the works of writers such as Tolstoy, Mann, Musil, or Proust.
The author aims to present all of this in a way that is not merely a 'factual communication,' but rather a challenge to the adventure of a lasting and enduring search for life, where inevitably 'the journey is the goal.'
