The fourth edition of the textbook "Law of the European Union" is the result of collaboration among an experienced team of authors, composed of experts in EU law working at the law faculties of Charles University in Prague and Masaryk University in Brno, as well as at the Court of the EU and in the Office of the Government Agent for representing the Czech Republic before the CJEU.

This edition reflects the current development of European Union law in response to key events of recent years, particularly the Russian aggression against Ukraine. The authors have included a new subsection on the common foreign and security policy and added passages about the first experiences with the functioning of the European Public Prosecutor's Office. The textbook also contains an updated interpretation of the case law of EU courts and refers to the latest professional literature.

A significant contribution to this edition was the use of insights from the Commentary on the Treaty on the Functioning of the EU, the Treaty on EU, and the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the EU, the content of which enriched the text. The author team was also inspired by discussions during the conference marking the 30th anniversary of the Department of European Law at the Faculty of Law of Charles University, which focused on improving the teaching of European law.
