The textbook presents in a concentrated form the nature, characteristics, and selected representatives of the most current forms of legal thinking. It thus provides an opportunity to familiarize oneself with critical approaches to the study of law that transcend the framework of traditional, modern, or dogmatic legal science. For this purpose, it summarizes perspectives that subject law to critical examination and reassessment from external viewpoints drawn from various areas of societal life, such as postmodern philosophy, literary art, economics, psychology, and politics (or the political dimension of identity). It indicates trends in legal science from the turn of the 20th and 21st centuries, which consist primarily of increasing fragmentation, a departure from law as the central object of study, and the strengthening of interdisciplinary possibilities for the study of law. Thus, law students receive a characterization of postmodern approaches to law, the law and literature movement, the law and economics movement, as well as various forms of radical legal theories (critical legal studies, legal feminism, and critical race theory), including lesbian legal theory and queer legal theories.
