This unique university textbook presents the basic institutes and concepts of Islamic law. In the second edition, the text has been updated, and the chapters concerning family, inheritance, and criminal law have been expanded. The introductory part focuses on the emergence of Islam and some important moments in the historical development of the Islamic world, as well as the sources of Islamic law, Islamic legal schools, and Islamic theories of the state. The second, core part of the textbook discusses the most important branches of Islamic law – family law, inheritance law, criminal law, and financial law; a brief explanation of Islamic judiciary is also included. Finally, a glossary of selected foreign terms is added for better orientation. The textbook is primarily intended for teaching the subject of Islamic Legal Culture at the Faculty of Law of Palacký University in Olomouc. However, it can also be used by students from other universities and the general public to familiarize themselves with the main institutes of Islamic law.
