The book introduces readers to some elements of the legal philosophy of John Finnis and the related school of new natural law theory, as well as the argument of Robert Alexy. The author shows that law can only be understood in the context of a general theory of practical reasonableness. Law, like other normative systems, serves as a guide to finding answers to the question of what I should do, how to behave here and now. The most essential criterion for the answer is not an externally imposed rule, but the person and their integral development. The author places the theme of natural law in broader contexts and suggests a close connection with the noetic theme (the ability of reason to contact reality) and the anthropological question (especially human freedom).
