Historiografia rímskeho práva na Slovensku: Príbeh štyroch profesorov – Gregor Martin (2021)

The tumultuous history of the 20th century often dramatically impacted the lives of university professors. This scientific monograph demonstrates this in many places. It introduces the reader to the fates and scientific contributions of four significant professors of Roman law who worked in Slovakia during the 20th century. From the period of the First Republic, it includes scientifically processed biographies of Otakar Sommer and Miroslav Boháček, followed by Karol Rebro and Peter Blah. Based on this, the monograph presents a coherent view of the development of legal education in Czechoslovakia, reflecting particularly on the changes in the teaching of Roman law imposed by the events of the time. Through an engaging narrative about interesting aspects of the professors' lives, it also highlights an important methodological question: why the teaching of Roman law is important. Due to its biographical nature, the book can attract practically anyone, but it will be especially appreciated by those interested in the issues of legal education and its more recent history.
