The publication provides a basic overview of the legal regulation of private insurance. The discussion of the issues is presented not only from the perspective of our legal regulation but also in the context of EU law. The publication describes the basic conditions for conducting insurance and reinsurance activities, including the creation of technical reserves, financial placement, and solvency. Another part of the publication is dedicated to the issue of supervision in insurance, particularly its subject matter, scope, peculiarities of financial supervision, and group supervision. A significant part of the insurance market is also made up of insurance intermediaries. A chapter is devoted to the legal regulation of this activity, describing the basic conditions for access to and performance of this activity, all within the process of implementing the new EU regulation. Another chapter deals with the legal regulation of insurance that arises from an insurance contract. This primarily concerns the issues of the inception, duration, and termination of insurance under the new legal regulation contained in Act No. 89/2012 Coll., the Civil Code. In this context, an explanation is also provided for all important institutes of indemnity and sum insurance, property insurance, liability insurance, and personal insurance.
